About CIFA

CIFA is an independent international non-profit organisation based in Switzerland. From its seat at Schloss Wylihof it acts as the institutional reference system for the cosmetic and aesthetic professions — setting standards, evaluating independently and recognising what meets them.

Governance as institutional responsibility

CIFA's approach to governance rests on independence, transparency and institutional responsibility. The structure separates strategic direction from operational implementation and assigns clear responsibilities.

Decisions follow defined procedures. Particular weight is given to the traceability of decisions, independence from individual commercial interests, and consistency with the mission, the standards and long-term objectives.

The federal principle: national associations

National associations are the central element of the federal structure. They are the official national representation within the global framework and translate the international standards, education frameworks and governance principles into their respective national context.

  • Representing CIFA at national level
  • Placing international frameworks within national contexts
  • Advancing quality, education and ethical standards
  • Supporting dialogue between institutions, organisations and partners

National associations act independently within their own legal and cultural framework while aligning with CIFA's overarching principles. This interplay allows international comparability without displacing national particularities.

  • Advancing the mission, standards and values
  • Supporting dialogue between national and international actors
  • Contributing to international visibility and standing
